Happy 4th of July to all our American sisters! Welcome to a new month!
It has been a huge week with lots crammed in. Partly this was because from Monday morning I tried to try and squeeze as much goodness out of each day as I could. I didn't really do anything different other than to think this way about it.
So here goes:
I had gorgeous op shop finds. Dreamy things that I just love. The picture on the right I thought was a Saint. I had to have it. Now I know it is a painting of Jesus when he went missing and was in the Temple. So at twelve years old. (The original depicts him teaching in the temple.) It is painted with such love and beauty!
Also two lovely prints for the top house.
I started the week with filling my biggest slow cooker with a turkey carcass, celery from last summers garden, bay leaves from Mum's tree, parsley from my garden, onions I was given... I let it cook all night. I needed up with three litres of beautiful stock.
I shared some, froze some and made soup with some.
As pumpkin cooked down for the soup I pinched some out and made two lots of scones, with cheese.
The kids just love these.
My cook up was a heap of chicken schnitzels and veggies. I had two meals and Chloe's family had a meal.
I finished Lily's skirt and bought a little warm top to go with it.
I completed my third quilt block. The star is much more obvious. I cut the fabric to show as many roses as possible!
'
Now I am understanding the addiction factor as while I was sewing this I picked out these colours for the next block and was just itching to get to cut it out!
I was given beautiful patterns. These are very helpful for me!!
I have lovely cottons to make Lily things for summer. So being given patterns is just fantastic!
I ordered some cotton sheets on marketplace. My idea is to use sheets as quilt backing. These are 2 x 2.5 x 2.3 metres. They are huge. They have never been washed or used. It is working out only a few dollars per meter and beautiful quality.
With them are two pillowcases. Since this set arrived I bought two more. Oh my goodness they are soo beautiful and again it is only a few dollars per meter. One set is king size. Also pillowcases. All brand new but on market place. I am going to save all these pillowcases and add embroidery or trims as gifts.
The other two patterns I can show next week. They only arrived today. But now I am in love with this way of getting fabric and I think some of the older cottons may be better quality than some of what is in stores.
I am collecting eggs and more eggs...
I made Honey Gingerbread biscuits for the kids. They always eat these up.
It was cold! I had the fire going 24/7 and if it goes out over night it's like a crisis lol. The boys bring the wood up to the back door...
I was given absolutely stunning fabric as a gift. I have run out of day light but will show I photos next week and in the club. I feel very blessed. 💖
My eldest Grandson had a graduation this week from Kindy to big school. I took a trip to be there and it was so sweet. The school made each child feel so special and he was so proud! I took him two graduation gifts, a dinosaur lunch box and dinosaur pencil case. Well, he was happy about everything. 😊
Best of all he is very confident about his new class and new teacher after the holidays. I like this very kind and smooth transition for him.
I got home after dark but avoided all the wildlife and the fire didn't even go out! Success! 🔥 Mind you I was so tired I couldn't sleep. Does that happen to you? Like a child gets over tired and ridiculous... I can be the same lol.
So I am very happy with my week and really hope it was equally good for you!xxx
Annabel, What a lovely week you have had and so many wonderful finds at the Op Shops and on Marketplace.
ReplyDeleteI know your grandson was happy that you were there for the graduation. Plus cookies and presents!
I had a good week, I accomplished crocheting washcloths and dishcloths along with coasters from yarn I have scraps of.
I did go to the grocery store as they had cherries on sale for $1.99 a pound, limit of 3 bags, I chose the most filled bags and came home with nearly 7 pounds.
I made cherry amaretto jam, cherry jam, cherry vanilla jam and was able to get 10 ounces of cherry syrup made with cooking down the pits. I have the stems drying for tea making and the lemon peel is drying from the lemons I used.
It felt like a good week!
Prayers for all Bluebirds!
Dear Rosanne, I love cherries! What a fantastic price! They would be more like $15 a pound here or more. All the beautiful things you made!! Just lovely! I hope the new week will be another great one! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteThe quilt block is beautiful! And you’re one smart cookie to use the sheets for backing. They are great to make curtains too. Lilly’s skirt is so pretty and your broth turned into a beautiful color! Thank you for the 4th of July good wishes. 💕
ReplyDeleteDear Belinda, Thank you! I am so impressed with the beautiful quality cotton in some of these sheets. Its divine! So soft... so right for the back of a quilt. It would make lovely little dresses or nightwear as well! I have more turkey bones... so I can make another lot of stock! I am excited about this! Have a very good new week! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteDear Annabel, What fun and beautiful Opp shop finds. As I start to feel better with more time passing after finishing chemotherapy and radiation I have been able to do more and more at home, I am still slow but it feels good to be able to do things. Yesterday I got five loads of washing dry in the sun and finished off by the fire overnight. I am also working on some long overdue Happy Mail. Not long ago my little rooster Archie died. I had not kept any of the many roosters I hatched earlier in the year and was sad. Well yesterday I heard a funny little cook-a-doodling from the chook pen. I am excited that one of the last chickens I hatched is infact a little rooster, that is my most happy news of the week. Love Clare
ReplyDeleteDear Clare, I am so excited to see you back and now recovering. You really have been through such a hard time. Slow is ok... just go at your own pace and I hope you feel a little better and stronger each week that goes by.
DeleteIt is amazing you have a new little rooster! Normally my problem is too many roosters! I think doing five loads of washing and hanging it out, in one day, is a lot! It is so nice you are dong much better. You know I have bee praying all along, with much love Annabel.xxx
That ballet print was in my bedroom growing up!
ReplyDeleteIm guessing maybe the 60s? I remember these and also ones of swans... which I love too!xxx
DeleteHello Annabel (and everyone),
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your finds, Annabel, especially that painting and the needlepoint! Your quilt square is gorgeous, and so is Lily's new outfit. A very good week! You are also not the only one who gets overtired like a child does, haha - I'm not proud of this, but I occasionally also get weepy and a little dramatic and then realize I haven't eaten, which immediately remedies the situation.
Thank you for the July 4th wishes. My dad came over for dinner on the holiday & I sent him home with leftovers (veggies, spaghetti - yes, people typically barbecue, but he likes spaghetti - and chocolate cherry cake). Lots of work in the garden, harvesting loads of veggies and cutting bolted lettuce for my friend with chickens (and sowing more lettuce seed), and cut some chocolate and pineapple mint to root for new starts. Greenstalk had a very good sale & I invested in one more planter. This one may just be for flowers, but we will see. We've been blessed with a lot of rain so I haven't had to water as much. My dad got me a lovely gift of two flexible expanding garden hoses to make watering the front and back easier - well, I can get it done in about a quarter of the time it was taking to carry watering cans, so this was wonderful! They shrink right up and wind easily around a hose reel, so also much easier for me to handle. Inside the house, the carpets got a good summer shampoo and progress was made on knitting and stitching projects, and I finally made a little progress with letter writing.
It's lovely to hear about the little one's "moving up" ceremony, as we call it. Important moments!
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
<3
Kathy
Dear Kathy, Thank you! Yes... I have felt like crying and figured out I am over tired and overwhelmed. Also I have wondered what is wrong with me and realised I need to just drink! You have to wonder lol
DeleteYour Dad got you the greatest present! He knows you well! And the extra Greenstalk will be fantastic. You have great success with them.
Ahhh the bolted lettuce is a great chicken feed... you see how much including weeds is loved by chickens!
I bet your Dad is so happy going home with left overs for another meal! That is just lovely! This week has flow by... but good! With love Annabel.xxx
Hi Annabel
ReplyDeleteLily's skirt and top are lovely and so is the sheet you bought on marketplace for a quilt backing. What a good idea, I must keep an eye out for fabric like this. It's so funny to think of you snugging by the fire while we're sweltering here and the reverse will be true come December. What am amazing planet.
We've had guests to stay and made the most of garden produce for meals- carrots, lettuce, basil, potatoes, broad beans, plums, raspberries, black currants and gooseberries. I picked bunches of flowers and took some as a hostess gift to sewing group. The baby quilt is coming on well.
We have received some very nice foodie gifts from guests and family and some are long life to go in the store cupboard which is nice too. We have looked after our daughters dog for ten days while they're away on holiday which saves them a lot on kennel fees and they brought us some nice food back from France as a thank you. We're happy to have him, he's a lovely dog. Also received three interesting plants.
No batch cooking, everything got eaten this week!
Best wishes to all Bluebirds.
Penny in the UK.
Dear Penny, Oh all your fruit, berries... flowers... sound so beautiful. And how great to be given pantry type gifts that you can add to your store cupboard. And food from France no less! Having guests is an extra busy time. Actually add a dog and its extra extra busy! Taking a bunch of flowers to someone is lovely. Especially from your own garden! Hope it's been a good week as this week is almost over already! With much love Annabel.xxx
DeleteYour sewing is beautiful Annabel! Lily will lol gorgeous in her outfit. How nice to go to the graduation, especially with gifts! I’ve never made pumpkin scones but I think I’ll try this week, I think you’ve had success with making them gluten free?
ReplyDeleteWe’ve had a week of holidays and it has been so good. I’ve done some clearing, sorting and cleaning of cupboards and rooms. They are functioning so much better now. I think so far we’ve taken 12 bags to the op shop! There is more to do and I’m motivated because of what a difference it is making.
Three out of four teams have completed their MasterChef challenge. Just my 14 year old son and I to go. It’s been fun, and the kids have been really proud of their efforts. They’re already talking about what to make next holidays.
We went to a library we haven’t been to before, it’s a decent walk away but there were two playgrounds on the way so that kept the girls happy. There was a snowflake hunt at the library, and I got a puzzle out. I only do puzzles once so this is much better than buying them.
I’ve been reading and doing cross stitch and it’s been so good. I have some prep to do for next term, I plan to do that early in the week so that I can enjoy the rest of the holiday and prep some home stuff like meals in the freezer as well.
I hope you have a lovely week.
Jen (NZ)
Jen yes I made them GF... I use Woolworths brand gf SR flour. I just throw in some soft pumpkin and some grated cheese. They are really lunch worthy on their own. Because of the pumpkin moisture I need more flour but you are just going for a soft dough you can handle so you will be fine.
DeleteWhat great holidays with the cupboard clean out. All the donations will bless someone else too. It feels great to be organised and also you know what will be needed coming up as the orders ones will have grown. The library sounds like a great outing in good weather... take a picnic even!
I LOVE the Masterchef challenges and no doubt they have all had fun and learned a lot. Really this is fantastic. I really like how learning and having a great time can easily be combined.... a day making back to school foods might end the holidays well! With much love Annabel.xxx
What a lovely outfit for Lily!!! I like your quilting too!! We had a heatwave last week (with unusual high temps for our country). We had to slow down a couple of days. Now I try to do a good amount of work again...😅 Have a good week, Annabel and y'all here on this blog. Esther (the Netherl.)
ReplyDeleteDear Esther, Yes you really have to lay low in the heat. I am already dreading next summer! Thank you so much! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteWhat a busy week and productive week you’ve had!! I marvel at how you fit it all in!
ReplyDeleteThat turkey stock is pure liquid gold. So much flavour and so healthy. I love stock.
Lily’s outfit looks beautiful. Well done 😊
Have a lovely week everyone 🪺
