Feather your Nest Friday, 25th October, 2024.

Such a big week but so little to show!  As you know this week Andy's ashes were buried here on the hill and this completed many months of work and carried out his wishes.   I am very pleased with every aspect of it and know Andy would LOVE it.  Someone in town today said to me it is "magnificent."  Well,  it is lovely to hear that but all the goodness and help have come from God.    Leading up to Wednesday I had loads of anxiety and after the service I pretty much went to bed.

Earlier in the week Mum had a really bad fall.  She had a broom up in the air clearing away cobwebs on the veranda.  I think she was dizzy because she had been fighting a sinus infection.  Anyway she fell backwards hitting her head on the brick pavement.  It was so lucky she did not crack her head open.  She had a cut on one elbow, bruises but nothing broken.  My brother got there first then I went with my overnight bag and stayed with her.   Next thing I was down with probably the same bug Mum had and felt exhausted and dizzy as well.   So really this was a week I often mention... the week when if you keep things going you are doing well but nothing extra is going to happen!  Survival is success!   You can say what I loved about this week is that it's over!

BUT despite all this things still happened!

Calf number 11 arrived!  This is quite a collection!   Late this afternoon as I came home from town I spotted a cow over under a tree,  far from the rest.  This only means one thing.  I went and checked on her.   An hour later I went and checked again (about 5 o'clock) ....   and just now, a few minutes before 7pm,  I jumped in the ute, in my nightie... as I could not resist checking again.  And here they both were heading back to join the rest of the cows!

They both look completely perky and happy!

The calves are all so quiet. The largest bull calf rubs his head on the ute.  I hang my arm out the window and wait.  They are shy but I wriggle my fingers.   They cannot resist and soon my fingers are being licked.  This is how cows are they are so nosey.  It is truly lovely. 😊

After posting about my "shop" and the beautiful old cabinet my friend messaged me because she saw me mention that if I could find another similar cupboard I could have one whole wall that looks like Nanas kitchen.   She sent me a photo.  She said she had a cupboard in the shed very like the one I have... and it's mine if I want it!

Yes!  It is very similar!  It will be fantastic!  I am so excited!   These are the times when I just think how God provides the desires of our heart and we don't have to do anything!

The floor rug I ordered for the room turned up also.  So my shop is progressing quietly!

A parcel I ordered came complete with chicken nesting box material.  I don't know if I was more happy with the contents or the packaging!

So... I am excited that hopefully next week I can work on the shop,  the garden,  get the new cupboard in place.... I also am doing a freezer organising challenge.  AND I have something very exciting to announce!

In my preparedness journey I have attended two classes by Patsy Norwood from A Working Pantry.   If you click this link it will explain.   I am going to host a free preparedness class by Patsy in our group  The Tuesday Afternoon Club.    You will need to be a member to join in (which is easy) and I will check daily to accept each.  The usual Tuesday club things will continue but our special class will begin with an introduction by Pasty on Sunday and actual class on Monday.

I can tell you that it will be a great learning experience and also great fun!

The name of the class is "Circling the Wagons."

I really hope many of you will join and you will find it encouraging!   I am really excited and very glad to have happy projects to look forward to.

Meantime I am planning a recover and re group Saturday.

How did you build up your nest this week?  ANYTHING is good!

There sure is a lot going on in the world.  Maybe it's time we circled the wagons.xxx

  1. Annabel,
Prayers for comfort are with you dear. You have had one full week to handle and I know you handled all with grace. Andy is looking down smiling, he has to feel blessed that you followed his wishes and went beyond. Prayers for your Mum's recovery from her fall and prayers you recover from the virus.

We had a week of winter preps completed, our drainage near our cliff has been finished, with hopes that it handles the amount of water that flows. We had the house power washed, it looks so much better. He did all the windows also, so that saved me from washing all. We also had the sprinkler system cleared out so that the lines don't freeze and break. So it was a great week of accomplishments for the coming season. It felt good getting them all done.

I wasn't in the greatest shape so just keeping the housework done was work, though I feel good to have kept up with it. I did do something for myself and scheduled Physical Therapy sessions. So I should be doing better and after even one session I can see it is going to help. The old saying that you cannot care for others if you don't care for yourself first.

I worked a bit on my pantry and added pasta to it this week. Where it use to cost a $1 for a box it is now $3, so when it went on sale for $2 and I had coupons I added to the pantry. It only makes sense to stock when the prices are better. As we all know keeping our pantries stocked is more important in today's world.

    Prayers for all bluebirds.

    1. Thank you Rosanne. It is lovely to have the house washed. Things look so much better, the same with windows. Everything looks lovely with clean windows.
I hope the physical therapy helps. Yes we have to look after ourselves or nothing happens!
Stocking up on the good deals is the only way to go. I am basically not buying anything that is not on a deal and then I might get 6 or more. But the specials are less often and less special! Have a good weekend and a restful one. With love Annabel.xxx

  2. What a week you have had. I hope things calm down for you now.
I'm all for circling the wagons. This week I bought some extra logs for the winter, a new smoke alarm (the old one appears to be working, but pressing the test button doesn't make the alarm sound as it should), a battery-powered light to illuminate my storage area under the stairs (as the old one died on me) and I also invested in a head-torch, as I had read how handy they are in emergency situations. None of the purchases were ultra-urgent, but I knew that if I put them off until later I would quickly forget about them!

    1. Dear Tracy, You did a lot of fantastic things! I think yes the head lights are great, your hands are free. I am thinking these would make pretty good gifts also. Each thing you added was a great choice! I am so excited for "Circling the Wagons" it is very timely I think. With love Annabel.xxx

I didn't know this until a short time ago, but smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years. We had to do this to sell a house. In the US, there is a date of manufacture stamped on the back of the detector.

  3. Hope you and your mum feel better soon. You were fortunate to get paper as packing. I have been ordering a lot of parcels online recently and none has come with paper packing, all plastic pillows and bubble wrap. It makes great packing but only goes into the rubbish bin. No use in recycling. Love seeing the black cows and calves, I have dexters and only have 2 left, a 2 year steer and 7 yr cow. We are down sizing.
The plan is move to the beach next month and see if we like living in a town, while our daughter moves to the farm in a shouse we just built. We will travel back and forth each week, only a 25 minute drive, for maybe 2 years to see if we prefer town or country life. Husband wants to go fishing more and our young grandkids will be only 6 houses away. So hope to make the best of time with the grandkids while they are still young. Have a great week. Erin

    1. Dear Erin, It sounds like you could have the best of town and farm life... and being close to grandkids is a huge benefit. And if your husband is fishing that could be such a bonus. I see Dexters are a smaller breed. It is so interesting how many types of cattle there are. I do love them. I hope your move goes well and 25 minutes is so little I think it's a lovely plan! 7. My, you have had a week! I echo what all the other Bluebirds have said. My prayers for your mom. And I have not stopped praying for you since Andy's home-going. May the God of all comfort surround you with his great love.
I did feather my nest with baking, freezing pumpkin puree, and mending. But I also helped my household in another way. I let Jesus clean up my heart. I have been harbouring grudges and the like. And, wow, do I feel much better! I know I shall be easier to live with. And I will more likely reflect Christ's love to others.
    God is good!
    Praying for you all,
    Leslie in Ohio

    1. Der Leslie, Thank you! It can be very hard to let go of past hurts and issues. Sometimes we have been genuinely wronged, hurt and treated badly. Wiping the dust from our feet can be tough! But they are dangerous to hang on to and how does the verse go... like cancer to our bones. I am so glad you felt great progress and results! Also good job on the puree and mending. I really appreciate all the prayers and I believe they have helped me greatly. Thank you so much, with love Annabel.xxx
