Feather your Nest Friday, 15th May, 2026.
Goodness, literally, all week.
Despite being under a mountain of fruit I could not resist a bag of Bananas for $2. They were cheap because they were ripe. I made them up into a double batch of banana and walnut muffins. I got 33 large muffins and froze most of them.
Then I thought I better get back to the fruit I already had. My new (yet old) Bessemer pot came out. These green apples are really big. I fit 43 apples in there! With my old fashioned peeler/corer I ran them through fast and cooked them down to a chunky apple sauce.... suitable for with roast pork/pork chops etc.
So this used one bag of apples. I got eight good sized containers. I gave Chloe three for her freezer and froze the rest.
The next lot of apples will probably be baby puree for Ike.
This week the cows grazed the driveway and around the house. There was really high grass and they had a great time.
Whatever you were doing, they were watching. Humans are very interesting.
\
It was a week of opening and closing gates and cows wanting to know what you were doing and did you by chance have an apple?
Yesterday I decided they had pretty well mowed the grass down nicely and Tom helped me drive them back into their own paddock and go get a steer that was in the wrong paddock.... which we sorted out. So this was very good and we hope rain is coming over the weekend to keep the grass growing.
I hope you had a very happy Mothers Day! We did. We had a picnic under a big gum tree in the sunshine. Four Grandmas and friends.
I gave Mum a Laura Ashley lasagne dish with the prettiest lid and it has a carry case that keeps your dish either hot or cold. Mum loved it. She is always lugging cooking to someone and this is perfect.
I like it so much I think I will get one for myself!
The kids were swinging under the tree and had to tell us about a wombat hole and other adventures.
Lily wore a dress that her Mother and Aunty wore. A friend of mine knitted it. It was worn over and over. Almost 40 years later it is beautiful on Lily and looks brand new. It also brought back memories. It brought back memories for Mum too.
It is warm, soft pure wool. So I do not subscribe to throwing everything out. Many things Lily has worn have been worn by her Mother. Especially smocked dresses. I kept all the smocked Liberty dresses and knitwear by Mum and my Nana.
Chloe also keeps all the heirloom things.
I have a box for each Grandchild with their name on it. After Dad died I began to fill these with special items, newspaper articles etc and I label everything ie this was Grandpa Tom's family photo/compass/book/hat etc. When Andy died I added belts, pocket knives and other cool stuff that was his and labelled those. Also I kept hats, guitars, all sorts of things. But each child had THIER box of stuff that are especially theirs. To me this helps give kids a sense of history and the generations and what went before that led to their own lives. My Nana wrote a book, each have a copy of that. My Aunt is a writer and they each have a book of hers (both contain a lot of family history.) As the collections grow I've thought to put the boys things in some of Andy's leather cases.
On Mothers Day we were all given blessing jars... the jar had a pocket full of special blessings...
Starting with the smallest one first I had my first of the season bon fires. I hope to have many more next week.
Recently the ducks got a pond upgrade. It is super sweet how happy they are. I thought frozen peas into the water, they love that!
Tomorrow though I need to work on pears... they are the most urgent as some are going soft. So the influx continues and I can hardly believe it!
Happily in town I got lots of beautiful smaller jams suitable for jams and jellies. When I first looked they were $1 each. So I was going to leave them. Then the lady said "oh you can have as many as you like for free we need the space." I also got two huge pantry sized jars. I have no idea how many I got as like nearly everything else they are still in the car. I brought in everything for the fridge and freezer... everything else will have to wait until tomorrow. I've run out of daylight and energy! BUT I have one of the best hauls in years of things like brand new boys work shirts and quilts, underlays... pure wool, brand new... I simply cannot believe my blessings today. Very very exiting! I even found perfect things for gifts. And our supermarket had a promotion... you get points as you shop and can turn the points into cookware. I noticed I had a lot of points so this trip I wrote down how many I have and looked at the display. This is really nice quality stuff! I got a free stock pot and a free mid sized saucepan. These go straight into the resent cupboard. Also... I have more points and can pick something else next week!
I made up essential oil germ killing/immunity winter rollers and sprays. I like to keep something in my hand bag, in the car, next to the bed. I used to get the worst sore throats. Since I've used oregano oil asap at first sign of anything I have been able to stop them all in their tracks. But it's a matter of making up supplies and USING them!
To a lady called Cynthia. I didn't publish your comment but I understood it. And I am already deep in the trenches as to some of the things you mentioned. However this blog is to encourage and uplift and help where possible. There are an absolute ton of blogs and channels to keep people informed on geo political things ie Neil McCoy Ward is very good. So overall the one I trust is Jesus and I keep fairly quiet on politics. I believe there is good and evil. For sure. I am committed to doing good and not getting tired of it. All I want to hear at the end is "well done good and faithful servant."
I hope you had many opportunities to build up your nest, family and community. And we are now a community and I hope you find encouragement and friendship here too.xxx

That dress is so pretty...so glad you kept it.
ReplyDeleteI wish they would bring back the points for kitchen ware at our supermarket. It's been a long time since I got the china that's in my cupboard. I do use it on holidays.
I need ducks I think ...just to admire. Have a great weekend.
Dear Vickie, It has been years since our supermarket did this... and Im surprised how good it is! I hope next week to get at least one more thing. Ducks are very gorgeous. Mine are sitting on eggs... they failed to actually hatch anything last time but Im hoping this time they might get it right! With Love Annabel.xxx
DeleteAnnabel, What a lovely week you have had.
ReplyDeleteSo happy you were able to spend Mother's Day with all, the picnic sounds lovely and your gift to Mum is beautiful.
We had a quiet Mother's Day, my Son stopped by for awhile and then my Grandson and his Significant Other. It was so nice spending time together.
You were truly blessed at the Op Shop, so happy you received all the jars with all the preserving you are doing they will come in very handy.
We had a quiet week here, days I was good I achieved, days I was bad I didn't. I used some dates that needed using up to make a cake, it came out so light and tasty. I re-potted my houseplants into old pots I had kept. We shopped sales and reduced items at the grocery store as most items were high and only junk foods were mostly on sale. We made meals stretch to make at least 2 dinners and a lunch.
We are trying to be as frugal as possible with rising prices on everything from food to gasoline to electricity here. I am happy my Parents taught me to be frugal.
Prayers for all Bluebirds.
Dear Rosanne, Thank you! I am glad you saw family over the weekend. I like houseplants they keep the air fresh. A lot of what is on sale here is junk or non food items. I look each week for the best value veggies which almost always includes carrots. Have a very good new week! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteDearest Annabel you have had such a marvellous week! All those blessings! And all that fruit. I like to can applesauce. I love it on my yogurt and the grandchildren love to eat it too. It’s good to give the when they feel a bit unwell. I just love your cows! I so wish I had saved items from my children’s childhood to pass onto my grandchildren. Such a special thing to do. I love reading your blog every Friday and I follow along on the FB page although I don’t always post on there. My weeks seem so boring compared to yours. Bless you xx Janet from QLD
ReplyDeleteDear Janet, You are right, apple is very soothing to the stomach. Thanks for the reminder as I had not thought of this. Dont worry you can give your own special and personal things to your grandchildren. I put away things all the time for the future into my special boxes. Thank you for your very kind words! With much love Annabel.xxx
DeletePlease stay positive and uplifting, there is toooooo much negativity around and it’s easy to find, joyous and calm is scarce.
ReplyDeleteSomeone told me during the week that you don’t need to be a leader to have leadership qualities. I did have to think about that for a day or two, but wholeheartedly agree.
You are a great leader. Megan.
Dear Megan, Thank you so much for the encouragement. What you say is true. Sometimes we can lead just by being positive, being kind, giving a good example when everyone is upset/confused/crazy haha! The negativity is bad... whoever I talk to and whatever country people are having a hard time and I dont blame them for feeling defeated... but making someone feel worse is no answer either. Thank you so much, with love Annabel.xxx
DeleteAnnabel, your blog is all about what we CAN do! It's about being a good steward of the Lord's blessings, big and small. And sharing the wonders of God's world. It is such a help and encouragement to read. Please continue to keep the negativity at bay. Thank you for sharing your abundance! Sue
DeleteYou are so blessed, my friend, with an abundance of produce, family and friends. I look forward each week to your beautiful pictures and blog.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely and restful weekend.
Dear Glenda, Thank you! I truly am blessed. I made a new friend Friday I think and the community is just wonderful. Have a lovely new week! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteEach week I'm amazed by all you accomplish, Annabel! So glad you had a special Mother's Day. I'll be looking, also, for the covered baking dish you got for your Mum. LOVE the dress Lily is in and how wonderful to have a dress with history. LOVE that you're putting together boxes for your grandchildren. LOVE your cows and the ducks look happy! Yes, I find encouragement, inspiration, and a welcoming place here. Thank you. It's a blessing.
ReplyDeleteGod has been bringing new people into our lives... young families with children. My husband has been landscaping the front 1/2 acre over the past 4 years and we'd noted he'd designed for entertaining without thinking about it. A family with several small children moved in; the vacant house on the other side has been under refirbishment by another young couple, and a newly arrived couple from Alaska stopped by yesterday to pick up free planters for growing vegetables. They have a baby and the husband works in Alaska 6 months out of the year, so she asked to be friends. We have no grandchildren--I believe we're being provided with surrogates.
The neighbor with the goats, chickens, etc. was just diagnosed with metestatic breast cancer. Her (long) journey ahead will begin soon. I've offered to cook for them. They're now trying to rehome their goats. She won't be planting this year. Please pray for Rochelle. She's in her 40s and it's hitting her hard, though her faith remains strong.
This week's bread is rising on the counter and I have work to do inside and out today. We've been busy. Summer weather arrived early and we're finishing up the planting. I've prepped beef and pork for the freezer as bargains have been found, along with sauces and gravies so nothing gets wasted. Blessings to you and all the Bluebirds!
--Elise in the AZ White Mountains
Dear Elise, Oh you sure are in the middle of a little community needing help. I am very sorry for your neighbours news. I am sure your cooking and support and prayers will help. I know you will bless all these families. I met a dear lady Friday. She has grandchildren but isn't allowed to see them. But she has taken on a family as an hoary Aunt with little boys and helps them. Well they need the help. God has plans. The bread sounds beautiful and I hope your garden does well! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteElise, my husband was diagnosed with a very aggressive metastatic stage 4 prostate cancer about a year ago. The oncologist and urologist both told us there was no hope. He might have 2, maybe 4 years. No chemo. No radiation. They would try and slow the cancer with drugs but in reality, no hope!! The cancer had moved into his bones - hips, spine, ribs and shoulders, which meant that pain would grow worse as time went by. We tried natural things, but the cancer grew increasingly worse.
DeleteI've been a fan of homeopathy for years. It helped heal my migraines and so many other health issues. It is an energy medicine, so I was familiar with frequencies.
God gave me the story of King Saul's son Jonathan when he and his armor bearer had to climb up and try to take over a stronghold. Johnathan told his armor bearer that maybe God would help them because nothing is too hard for the LORD. That's what I started praying. That God would help us! Nothing is too hard for God!
Then I found out about Rife machines. Back in the 1930s, Dr. Royal Rife used frequencies to kill cancer. He would shoot frequencies into the cancer and watch the parasites vibrate and explode. I started looking for a Rife machine. I found Spooky2.com. I don't know about other Rife machines, I know there are others out there, but the Spooky2 Central plasma unit has made the difference for us. With God's amazing grace we are seeing win after win. With tears in my eyes, I tell you my hubby is healing. The oncologist told us at our last appointment that the blood work showed such improvement, and it is a win and we will take the win. (He doesn't want to know why.)
I tell you, and anyone else reading here, that cancer does not have to be fatal, even for an aggressive stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. God has created an amazing cancer fighter in frequencies. He is the Creator! Please, tell your friend! There is hope!
Pam
Hi Annabel
ReplyDeleteYou had a great week! So nice to see the Mothers Day photos of the generations including Lily in her lovely knitted dress. That was a great gift you gave to your Mum.
The tapestry from your friend is beautiful too. A week of blessings, we must count them every day!
This week I found a deal on the shampoo I like for us and the family and stocked up. I bought several packs of reduced price beef mince, turkey steaks and pork chops to stock the freezer.
We used rhubarb, leeks and parsley from the garden. We are eating down the frozen fruit and veg in the freezer because soon the next crops will be ready. My husband put up the frames in the garden and planted out French and runner beans.
I cut snapdragons, iris, Sweet William and sweet rocket for the house and to take as the flowers for my arrangement at our floral group workshop.
I made a batch of chocolate chip cakes.
I sorted more clothes and took them to fabric recycling, sorted another drawer and shredded the paper, washed two backpacks and scrubbed with laundry soap then washed my rain jacket.
Our iron died and I found a good one on a half price offer in town.
If Bluebirds are interested I enjoy YouTubers Marion's World and The Last Homely House. Both UK based and lots of stitching, craft, a little cooking and gardening and most of all down to earth kindness. Amen to that!
Best wishes to you all.
Penny in the UK
Dear Penny, Thank you so much for the you tube suggestions! I will check them out! And your week was very industrious!! You did some great stocking up too. Chloe and I were talking about British willow garden supports/towers... we both have climbing things and see these in magazines! I think it was your husband who made some. Do you hire him out!!!?
DeleteI hope you have another equally good week! With love Annabel.xxx

Love Barb W
Dear Barb, A cake is a beautiful birthday present! You had a great week! Thank you for your kind words! Have a good week again this week! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteDear beautiful Annabel, I am constantly surprised and in awe of what you achieve each week ! It puts me to shame !
ReplyDeleteI also just want to hear the words of our Lord Jesus "well done good and faithful servant " weather I die first or he returns first ! I don't know the way or how but that's my desire ! I don't understand a lot of the book of relevation , all I know is when he comes I want to go !
I am trying to build my pantry ! I helped a friend this week recover from painful bone surgery in her foot. We prayed about it a lot prior. Thanks be to God a great result. !
Sonia in Sydney
Dear Sonia, Thank you so much! You made my day! I agree with everything you said! I am so glad your friends surgery went well! I am sure your prayers helped her and reassured her. Take every opportunity on your pantry! With much love Annabel.xxx
DeleteDear Annabel, you’ve had a beautiful blessed week! I love all that you are doing with your produce that keeps on coming. I can relate to not being able to resist a good bargain, even when you have plenty it seems, especially bananas. I had the same deal with strawberries again this week.
ReplyDeleteI love Mums casserole dish holder, she will get plenty of use from it as it’s so handy to have when delivering the meals that she dishes up.
Lily’s dress is adorable and she looks so cute. Your Mothers Day sounds wonderful and a fun day outside with the kids running around is just perfect xox
Hi Annabel, thank you again for the lovely blog, photos and commentary. Being positive is so important and doing what we can do, rather than being in a spin about the world and activities we cannot influence. I don’t watch regular tv anymore. Hope the rains come for you. I laughed out loud at your cow photos and your comment about how they find humans interesting, followed by a cow face closeup ;). Hilogene in Az.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is So Very Encouraging!! I look forward to reading it every week as well as the Tuesday Afternoon posts! I can’t begin to do as much as you and so many of the other ladies, but I do what I can. We have a vegetable garden, apple trees, blueberry bushes, rhubarb, etc. I don’t can, but I freeze a lot.
ReplyDeleteSounds and looks like you enjoyed a Wonderful Mother’s Day!! Love the dress Lily wore that you saved! That is so Special!! I saved all the knitted items my Mom made for my kids and have put them on the Grands to take photos of them wearing them. I absolutely Love your idea of making up a box of special items and family heirlooms for each grandchild! What a fantastic idea!! They will surely treasure those things when they are older.
You sure reaped a bounty of things on your trip to town! What a blessing! I check our local thrift stores from time to time but only find a few things here and there.
I really appreciate that you don’t get political on your blog. There is enough discussions about all that on the social media sites! It’s so nice to have a place that encourages faith and ideas on how to prepare for whatever the future holds. Thank-you for making your blog that kind of place.
Blessings to you,
Laura C. (Aka Nana C.)
Such lovely pictures of your Mothers Day, Annabel! I love the idea of your boxes for your grandchildren, they will cherish them. You’re doing an amazing job of preserving your produce, I laughed that you bought the bananas anyway, I would have done the same!
ReplyDeleteI tried the sweet potato soup recipe and it is beautiful. The whole family loved it, and I made a pot to take to work and my colleagues also enjoyed it. It can be frozen so I’m going to make more.
I found trays of steak that needed to be used that day marked down to $10/kg, unheard of. I bought all three and quickly became very popular with my teenage sons lol. I’d already made dinner for that night so they went into the freezer.
I started crocheting a scarf for myself, I love the colours. I’m noticing I’m already feeling the cold this year and it’s not even Winter yet. So that will be a nice addition to my wardrobe.
My daughter’s birthday party was really fun, with lots of food leftover for the next day. My older daughter is also a May baby, so I need to plan some activities for her. She wants a quiz night theme.
I hope you have a lovely weekend
Jen (NZ)
I've mostly stayed out of the grocery stores and am using up foods I'd packaged up for two in my freezer. But things are starting to look a bit low and I think I can now go buy a few things and put up for myself as singles. I am trying to eat at home but I do find I want to go out more for the change of scenery than anything else. However, there is much to do here and after sitting and daydreaming all of one day a couple of weeks ago, I came back down to earth and looked at what I can do NOW where I am with what I have. There's always something one can do! I have things I might sell easily, or trade. I have seeds to plant and pots to plant in. I have ways and means of doing loads of things. The greatest need is TIME.
ReplyDeleteI had my six year old grandson overnight and he very much wants to be a helper and to do things that make him feel grown-up. Today we made pancakes, he helped me load up laundry and get it into the dryer. I should have taken more advantage of his willingness to help but I was overly tired from the week behind me and his getting up at 5am this morning! lol. Next time I will plan to have him help more and perhaps he will be happy as your Tom.
What a week you have had, Annabel. I appreciate your diligence on preserving your fruit. Your example prods me on to process some pears I was given.
ReplyDeleteThat dress that Lily is wearing is sweet. What a long lasting gift!
Your cows curiosity cracks me up. :) And your Tom is such a gem.
Love your treasure boxes you packed for your grands. Such a good idea.
My week has been full of house work for a friend and gardening for myself. I filled every pot I have with herbs, and lettuce. These are off the front porch and near the kitchen for easy access. My onion bed is coming up nicely. My rhubarb is getting harvested daily. So thankful for my chickens as I have so much enriched soil.
I hope to get the tomatoes in this week. We've had a cold Spring and it has delayed the garden.
Blessings to you all,
Leslie
I've committed 2026 to be a year of joy. How about you?
Testing 1-2-3. Kelley here from Guam. I sent you an email recently as typically, attempts to leave blog comments fail. *sigh*. hugs!
