It might be a good idea to grab a cup of tea! It has been a huge week!
I will try and start at the beginning. It was going to be very very hot. My Basil was looking pretty good so I decided to pick some before it wilted. Even then it wilted as I brought it into the house but I plunged it into water then into clean kitchen towels to dry in the fridge.
It was enough to make a pretty big batch of Pesto. This is one of the best things of summer... the smell of basil is so fresh.
I had this stirred through pasta for two dinners.
I still have some in the fridge and I froze some in this awesome divided container I was given at Christmas. One of these with a steak would be so good.... or a couple thrown in with a creamy chicken dish.
My cook up was Chicken Enchiladas. I got three trays.... plus two meals for myself. The first one I served the mix over a baked potato with sour cream and cheese... and the second one I did the same thing over rice. It was really delicious.
Chloe and Luke were set to leave for the city to have the baby. They were leaving Tuesday and Chloe would be going into hospital Tue evening to have the baby Wednesday. So I took over this tray with a little salad for their meal. I thought this would help them pack up and not have cooking and dinner to worry about.
Chloe is very relaxed about babies and I am not. Oh, did I mention... Tuesday they had three hours to travel and it was going to be 45. (I think thats 114F) They headed off early and beat the worst of it.
On Wednesday my plan was to occupy myself with nice things until the expected phone call. Tom and Chase were born early evening. Lily turned up right after lunch! So I thought maybe this baby would be the same.
Thanks to Leslie I ordered (on eBay) this gorgeous book of gardens (very cheaply) to use for my cards. The images are my idea of perfection!
It was still really hot. I dashed outside to water veggies but stayed near the phone. I was still texting Chloe regularly and we got to 3 pm and nothing.
My peaceful card therapy was lovely for a while but then I got a message "Mum we are fine but we are going in for a cesarean, don't worry."
Card making no longer cut it as a distraction.
It seemed about 5 pm that the surgery was happening. Lucy had three cesareans and I had one... so we kind of know the drill. But from then until 8 o'clock we heard nothing.
As each hour passed I knew something was wrong. I asked Mum what did she think and she said "there is more to this."
I ended up on the bed praying and waiting and Mum was in her garden praying. It just was an agonising wait. I decided come 8pm I would be ringing the hospital.
Then at ten to eight I got a baby photo.... a big 9lb baby boy. Ike Alec.
But I still didn't know how Chloe was and it really wasn't all clear until the next day. They had been told this baby might not be delivered naturally as he was big and has a big boy head. She didn't want to worry me. Well he had zero intention of ever budging.
The thing that went wrong was the epidural and a series of events that meant Chloe was in recovery a long time.
But she was ok and baby was ok! He is a beautiful chubby placid baby.
The kids have been so excited especially Tom. Yesterday they went in to meet Ike and see Mummy.
Despite the heat Tom had to wear his hat to the hospital... you can see he has it on the ground.
Weeks before Chloe had spoken about how you don't have a certain amount of love that has to be divided by how many you have in your family.... rather love grows to be bigger. I thought this was a big concept for a five year old. But as Tom held Ike he said "Mum I can feel my love growing!"
Which you can see!
They are all besotted with him and he knows all their voices of course.
So we are very very blessed and Chloe said "Mum my heart is full!"
They are coming home Sunday... tomorrow I am cooking and making salads for night number one.
I did get some things done toward my great reset. I took another 14 shopping bags to the op shop, worked on my veranda and filled baskets with leftover wedding flowers.
Gradually the outdoor area is looking nicer and nicer.
I got out all the quilt blocks I made and realised I only need to make two more! So that's very motivating! I will say I will complete them in February and get this quilt make up!
Many of you prayed for Chloe and supported me thank you. I have friends I can call on to pray and this is the most beautiful thing. There are times it is hard to pray, like words fail. Your friends matter.
If you ever need prayer and don't have people to ask... ask me. There are others here who most certainly will pray for you too.
Today I went to town, went to Mass, thanked God profusely, shopped and ran errands... I still have groceries to unpack. I wrote up a meal plan for week one... Chloe won't be able to lift Lily and we are all going to need to help.
How did you feather your nest this week? January... it was full of valuable things, the girls coming to stay, Sidney coming to stay, many birthdays and now one more. I would not be upset though it February could be a little slower! xxx
Beautiful photographs of a beautiful family. They have brought a huge smile to my face on a cold, damp Winter's morning.

DeleteDear Annabel
ReplyDeleteWonderful news that Chloe and Ike are both well. That’s the most important thing. The recovery will happen.
The siblings will be very keen to lend a hand in the care and running around.
The creation of a loving family really is the pinnacle of a parent’s achievements.

Thanks Kate, The whole family has stepped up a notch. I love what you said, wise words! With love Annabel.xxx

DeleteCongratulations! Your family is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteTom is just adorable.
God bless all of you.
Thank you Savannah!xxx
DeleteThey make the most beautiful babies! My eyes leaked over the “love growing” statement. Such precious words and children! Congratulations to all! Matty
ReplyDeleteThank you Matty!xxx
DeleteCongratulations to you and your family on the new arrival! Babies are the best! I am so happy everything turned out ok. As distracted as you must have been, you got a lot done. Here in Southwest Virginia we have weathered one winter storm and are expecting another today. We were fortunate as we did not lose power. We got 5" of snow then a layer of ice last weekend. Not much has melted since the temperature has been below freezing every day. Starting today we are expecting another 5-7" of snow. Thankfully, no ice is expected. We were prepared and did not have to do any panic shopping. We have several generators of various sizes in case power is lost, plenty of food and several ways to keep warm and cook. It is the temperatures this month that have been so frigid. Tomorrow morning we are going to wake up to -20F with the wind chill! School has been out all week and I do not expect it to start up again until mid to late next week. The children are all doing virtual learning days so we won't have to make up the days. It is not my week to work. I am doing an unusual sub job of every other week with another sub doing my off weeks. The regular teacher went out for minor surgery and ended up having several serious complications and is out for the rest of the year. Neither myself nor the other sub are able to take on the job permanently so we are job sharing for the year. The class is very sweet and smart so it is fun most days. Anyway, I made a stew in the crockpot for last week's storm. Today I will make a pot of soup to eat over the weekend's storm. I made popovers to go with the soup. I will make up a tuna salad for lunches this week as well. With all this frigid weather I am planning my vegetable garden. Surely spring will not be that far off! Blessings to you and all the bluebirds. Marley in the Mountains
ReplyDeleteDear Marley, That sounds so cold... and ice I know is so dangerous. I am glad they close the schools... keeping people off the roads etc. You sound like you have an excellent set up. Virtual learning is a very handy thing.
DeleteStew and soup sound like the best thing! It is great a sub combination could cover for the teacher that needs the rest of the year off and that the class can go on uninterrupted. I hope your weather has improved a bit! With love Annabel.xxx
Mum, I can feel my love growing! these words made me burst into tears. God bless Tom, for being such a great kid.
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Ike - you have chosen a very good family for yourself.
Dear Annabel, a whirlpool of emotions! Congratulations for such a beautiful baby boy! Thank you for sharing these with us. Your next days will be so full, Have a wonderful time!
With love, Laura_s_world from Romania
Dear Laura, Thank you! Yes, full days! I am thinking it is not too long now for Spring for you. The last weeks of summer usually drag on here and I am glad it will be coming to an end. The whole family has stepped up with little Ike being loved and adored! With much love Annabel.xxx
DeleteWhat a beautiful baby and family. You’re a great mom and grandma!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!xxx
DeleteYou have the most beautiful family, physically and spiritually. I am so glad that all turned out well. Prayers for continued happiness and health!

DeleteI love Tom's comment! What a beautiful family! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Deanna!xxx
DeleteCongratulations to everyone! He is just lovely! What a beautiful family he has been born into. Im so pleased that Lucy is well, and that she has such amazing support as she recovers. The kids look so proud 🥰
ReplyDeleteYour meals look as good as always, and your meal service will be so appreciated. The pesto is fantastic! I imagine it’s very expensive to buy there as well?
My high schoolers started back at school this week, the early morning starts are always a bit of a challenge to get used to. There is also something comforting in the routine.
I’ve been pulling out the cookbooks and finding some new meals to try. It’s been great to use up what’s in the freezer, it needed sorting anyway and that’s much easier when there’s less in it! I truly wonder how anyone copes with the cost of living if they don’t feel comfortable cooking and baking. I consider myself a ‘fill the tins’ baker, but that means if we have basic ingredients then something can be made. This week I made cheese scones for lunches, custard kisses, lemon coconut biscuits, granola, bliss balls and vanilla cupcakes. Lots of using up of bags of nuts, seeds and dried fruit lol.
Next week everyone is back at school, so the organisation will kick in. And the slow cooker will be running non-stop. I loooove my slow cooker.
I hope you are all able to enjoy this lovely time of having a new baby at home. One of my favourite things is the sibling love! Best wishes to Chloe for a smooth recovery.
Have a beautiful week!
Jen (NZ)
Dear Jen, I have never bought Pesto... so Im not sure but I know the jars are small. I will have to look at the price! I love the sound of your back to school cooking! Absolutely beautiful. I dont know how people who dont cook manage either... not very well I dont think. One homemade biscuit, one slice of cake... in the stores are so expensive. Also your kids are not eating junk. Home baking has none of the list of dodgy ingredients we cant even pronounce. I am seeing most packets now have a little "bioengineered" label now... yeh... no thanks!
DeleteI agree about the early morning routine is a bit of a shock but the routine is good for getting a lot done. I always had a get the house in order week after the holidays!
Thank you for your kind words! It has been a busy week almost gone already! With love Annabel.xxx
What a handsome baby Ike is! And so loved :) He has amazing siblings already. I didn't get much done this week as I have been under the weather, but feeling much better. I hope your weather cools off for you soon!
ReplyDeleteDear Jenn, I hope you are feeling fully better! Thank you so much! The week has not been too hot... but I will sure be glad to see the end of summer! Thank you so much! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteDearest Annabel,
ReplyDeleteI cried reading your post...you are all spot on with love growing the more there are to love! Tom definitely knows what's what..."out of the mouths of babes"!!! When I see his big grin, it makes me want to smile, too. :) Congratulations to you and all your family. Ike Alec is beautiful, and I'm praying for a quick recovery for Chloe. Also praying for a little relief for you from the heat! I could just smell that basil with your pictures of the pesto. In fact, pesto frozen from summer is out thawing right now for supper tonight! I will "gild the lily" with some (also frozen from summer) oven roasted cherry tomatoes and some chopped kalamatas, and we will eat like kings tonight! I love the idea of pesto on steak.
I know how it is when you are waiting for news and then all you can do is pace and pray! In my case, that's usually all I can handle...most other things are just too much to either do or think about until it's all over. But if I can manage to do any tasks, it's usually cleaning, crafting, or eating! Ha, ha.
My week has been very productive. I met my goals of knitting a pair of socks and a baby sweater in January. I also did quite a bit of sewing, but I don't think I'll manage to get my shirt finished by the end of tomorrow, as we have to trek to the city for shopping. We're due to get a snowstorm on Sunday/Monday, so looks like I should be able to sew on Monday if the power doesn't go out. It's been cold and snowy here, so I've been out cross-country skiing around the property, which is a beautiful way to spend time in winter. Too cold of a wind for me today, though!
Blessings to all of you and especially to the new baby boy!
Lots of love,
Jen in NS
Dear Jen, Thank you so much! Pesto is also really good in a burger! Completely delicious! I hope you got through the snow storm ok and kept the power!
DeleteI cant even imagine skiing around the property! Even if we had snow Id be sure to hit a rock or a tree or both haha
Thank you for your kind words! This week has been busy and the kids have been really wonderful. With much love Annabel.xxx
Dear Annabel and Beautiful Bluebirds,
ReplyDeleteFirstly , congratulations to Chloe and Luke and Tom and Chase and Lily on the birth of Ike . Congratulations to you and your mum too Annabel .
Another baby to love is so nice and I love what chloe said and what Tom followed it up with about the love of family .
I love your cards Annabel , it is such a great idea to use books to make tour cards , I know you have done this before too .
My week involved going through another big container of craft supplies and other little bits and pieces that “ Barb from the past” decided were important at that time . Well Barb from 2026 decided some of it was just rubbish and some could be given to friends and some could be sent to the local op shops / thrift stores .
I now only have a couple of smaller containers to sort through and my craft area will be complete !. It gas taken awhile but i have used it as well as sorting things out for it ! .
I have made a card or two and lots of gift tags have been made using my gift tag punch .
I had some help a couple of weeks ago to sort through my freezer and it looks so much better. I have plenty of meat so unless I see a wonderful special I will not be purchasing any meat for awhile .
I am starting to meal plan again after a bit of a break . I love meal planning but keep it very flexible nowadays.
I hope you have a lovely weekend and week Annabel and I wish the same for the beautiful bluebirds and everyones family’s.
Love Barb W
Dear Barb, Thank you so much! Well done on your craft area work! And on the cards you made.
DeleteMeal planning is great. I review what I have and replan every week or so. I hope you are having a very good week too! With love Annabel.xxx
What a beautiful baby!!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!xxx
DeleteAnnabel, congratulations on the arrival of new little grandson Ike! What a wonderful blessing! He is surrounded by love! Many prayers for Chloe as she recovers, and for you also as you step in to help during this happy, busy time. Do take care of yourself! What lovely cards and delicious food you made! Have a blessed weekend and enjoy your precious family! Hugs and prayers, Teresa. P.S. Your planner from a few posts ago looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteDear Teresa, Thank you! I am glad you liked my planner. I am loving it. And fill it out daily, it's a great help. Thank you for your kind words and prayers! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteSo happy everyone is well and the new baby is beautiful and loved! Will add my prayers for Chloe’s quick recovery. Hilogene in Az.
ReplyDeleteThank you overmuch Hilogene!xxx
DeleteYour food looks yummy, your cards and floral arrangement are beautiful, and the photos of not-so-little Ike and his siblings made me mist up for joy. So glad Chloe and the babe are now doing well and can come home soon!
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes words do fail. That's when I remember Romans 8:26 and am so thankful that when I don't know what to say/how to pray the Holy Spirit will intercede for me.
Blessings to you and yours,
Roberta in SoCal
Dear Roberta, I love that and thank you for sharing that verse. I have a funeral to go to next week and words do fail me so I will rely on this.
DeleteThank you for your kind words! With love Annabel.xxx
Congratulations, Annabel, to you and the whole family. Ike Alec is certainly a big and beautiful baby boy! Thanks be to God for answered prayers! So glad mom and baby are doing well. --Elise

DeleteCongratulations Chloe and Luke on the arrival of baby Ike. And Congratulations Annabel - another grandson, what a blessing. Lots of love Clare
ReplyDeletePS All going well here. The heat is hard on my poor recovering body but I am poking along settling into our new home.
Dear Clare, Thank you! I hope this week has been a bit more mild... not extreme at least. It certainly is less wearing! I am so glad! With much love Annabel.xxx
DeleteCongratulations on the new edition to your family. All of the kids look so happy.
ReplyDeleteThank you Amy!xxx
DeleteCongratulations to you all! Thank God for His protection over the C-section. But the love in that room! It's such a pleasure to see littles excited over a baby.
ReplyDeletePraying for you all as you help Luke and Chloe. Prayers for Chloe's healing. Prayers for you, Annabel.
My week has gone well. I've been tackling many small jobs that are all adding up. The result is a better organized and clean home.
Also I am working in more visiting. A trip to the hospital to see my brother in-law. Stopped by my daughter's dorm to spend an hour with her. Calling my adult kids just to visit. I love being intentional in my relationships. Oddly, God has stretched my time in order to get my chores accomplished. ☺️
We are buried in snow, but I am sorting seeds and planning the garden. I was even able to pass on some seeds at a swap at the local library.
Blessings to all the Bluebirds,
Leslie in Ohio
Dear Leslie, What a good week! Seeing your brother in law and daughter and calling on your kids... and how amazing... the time was redeemed! I find this too sometimes and am amazed.
DeleteBeing buried in snow I guess is the time for lots of indoor work and planning! Thank you for your kind words! its love Annabel.xxx
Ike Alec is so cute. He looks like Tom. What a beautiful blessing.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Glenda. He also looks like my Grandfather, Mums Dad. Its uncanny! Mum is rather thrilled. It has been one busy week but going well! xxx
DeleteI made pesto this week too and that scent of basil in the kitchen is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteThis week has been all about the heat here and keeping water up to the garden.
What a lovely family you have.
Thanks so much Tracy! Yes basil is just gorgeous and I keep finding more uses for pesto so even small amounts add a lot of flavour (and vitamins) to a meal. I hear you on the watering... although I have less now as a lot has finished... just basil and cucumbers still really going. With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteCongratulations to Chloe and Luke on the safe arrival of a very handsome little man. The photos are super cute, with all the kids looking so happy with their new baby brother - very precious indeed. I hope you’ve recovered after such a stressful day waiting for the news. It’s been a special week for your family, and I hope you get to enjoy lots of cuddles and those beautiful newborn moments. I also love that you’re planning ahead to help with their meals - that practical love is such a gift and a beautiful way to wrap them in care as they find their feet xox
ReplyDeleteDear Stephanie, Nana always said an ounce or help is better than a pound of sympathy. So practical help is my motto. And a good meal helps each member of the family. It has been a precious week! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteBlossom and I are sending so much love and blessings and prayers of gratitude to God for Chloe and her family, you included!! There is no fullness restriction on the heart when it comes to love. What wonderful news!!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Jennifer
Thank you Jenny and Blossom! xxx
DeleteHello Annabel
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that Ike is delivered safely and Chloe is ok. Her recovery will be eased by all your help. You and your Mum must have been so relieved when the news came through that all is well. The photos of the children holding the baby are full of love. Plenty to go round!
I love your pretty cards and the batch cooking will be so useful.
Our County has never had such rainfall, we are fortunate to live on high ground but so many roads around are flooded that staying home has been sensible. I managed a trip to town yesterday. My daughter was driving home from here with our granddaughter and the road was flooded, she tried an alternative which also was flooded so she had to go ' up and over' on an old Roman road. This has fabulous views in good weather but was hairy in the driving rain. All was well and we count our blessings, many have flooded homes.
I spent my time at home decluttering craft supplies and was able to donate plenty. I also batch cooked fruity oat bakes and mini quiches for my granddaughter and made a big sausage meat, mushroom and leek lasagne and frozen a couple of portions. My husband spent rainy days inside the greenhouses clearing and cleaning and seed sowing has begun.
My husband ordered a bouquet of birthday flowers for me and the florist got through just before the roads closed. My lovely family gave me nice practical presents like warm socks and also offered to take me out for a couple of fun trips in the better weather. A friend made me a pair of lined mittens which are so snuggly. It was a lovely time.
It's raining again but I have plenty to do at home.
Best wishes to you and all the lovely Bluebirds.
Penny in the UK
Happy Birthday Penny! 🥳
DeleteLong time reader but I’m not sure I’ve ever posted a comment. First…Congratulations! Your new grandson is absolutely adorable and I’m so glad everyone is ok and healthy.
ReplyDeleteSecond, since the offer is there, would you and anyone else be willing to say a prayer for my family and I? Our family of six has spent the last week dealing with an awful stomach bug; one child fell ill on Sunday, my husband and I Monday, another child Tuesday and last night I was awake the whole night sitting up with another child. It is extra challenging as I am emetophobic (I have an irrational fear/anxiety surrounding vomiting). I’m hanging in there, but I feel my strength wavering and like I’m reaching a breaking point. My oldest (the only one who hasn’t been sick) also seems to be dealing with Emetophobia as well. If anyone would be willing to pray for our health and for my son’s and my own anxiety to be calmed, you would have no idea how much I would appreciate it!
Thank you,
Andrea
Andrea, I am praying for you and your family for health and peace through this time! Sincerely, Rachel (Oregon, U.S.)
DeletePraying for you and your family, Andrea. I can't imagine what you are going through. God has you in the palm of His hand.
DeleteHugs, Leslie in Ohio
Dear Andrea, I am so sorry your family is so sick. I pray things are improving and you are getting some sleep and managing better. I know even keeping up the washing alone is a huge job. I will pay for your household, With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteAnnabel,
ReplyDeleteIke is beautiful! And you can see he is so loved. What a precious blessing. Praying for good healing for Chloe.
Also I will gladly pray for anyone who needs it.
Your pesto and enchiladas look delicious!
Winters vary here and this winter is full of snow, ice or really cold temps so a long week of keeping up with the wood burner and some shoveling. We have putting out extra feed for the birds and any meat grease I mix with birdseed so they have some extra fat.
Our neighbor loves my dumpling soup so I took her over a bowl when I made some and a few cookies I had baked. She was very appreciative since it's so cold out and she had worked all day. And our farmer friends was happy to have some cookies to go with their coffee. Rick can drive a little bit now so he can go see them which is a blessing to me haha! He just can't go too far.
Life isn't very exciting right now haha.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week.
XOXO
Vicky
Dear Vicky, Its thanks to you I ever started making enchiladas! The poor birds in this weather, I love that you feed them. And you brighten up you neighbours day and farmer friends. Keeping up the wood to the fire is a busy job, I know it! And I dont even have your temperatures! Have a good week! With love, Annabel.xxx
DeleteCongratulations to you and your beautiful family! What wonderful news! Love does indeed grow!
ReplyDeleteStacy in Virginia
Yes! A mother’s love is not divided. It’s multiplied! Congratulations! ❤️
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Annabel ! On the new baby ! A little concerning she had a caesarian and sending her home so soon !! However prayers she is well. Well done on all the meal plans etc. all look delicious as usual ! You have achieved a LOT especially this heat ! Love Sonia
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all the family on the new arrival - he is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI have been hearing about the terrible heat you have been experiencing so I hope that this week is a bit cooler. It is so different here - Toronto hit minus 32C at one point this week and last Sunday we received 60 cm of snow! We are nearly dug out but it took until Friday before the sidewalk plows reached my neighbourhood so walking was a bit treacherous. So strange to think of the extremes!
Take care and enjoy your new grandson,
Hello Annabel,
ReplyDeleteOh, Ike is just beautiful! So happy to hear Chloe & baby are doing well. Welcome to the world, little one!
