Feather your Nest Friday, 19th December, 2025.
It is almost Christmas! And its been hot! Yep, in Australia you usually get slapped with some heat around this time.
I travelled with Chloe and the kids to her baby appointment... which is a six hour round trip. We stayed in the city overnight though as that is just too much with three small children. And Chloe only has five weeks to go so she is feeling it too.
On Sunday I have an early Christmas lunch here. This is because as with many families there are people in different locations to see. I started my Christmas table and tomorrow I need to get it all set up. My goal is that it is full of hidden treasures as three children will be full of excitement!
Our area grows a lot of onions, amongst other things like crops, beef, lamb, wine and also seafood, lobster....
My cows have settled in and are now friends with the other cows. 😊
I am happy to report with lots of deep watering all my veggie garden got through the heat and me being away. I have hundreds of baby cucumbers coming on! Tomatoes are almost ready!
Chloe got a good doctors report. It is a big baby with long legs! (These long legs are sticking her in the side right now and not very comfortable!)
My Christmas preparations are going ok. Some things have been such a success, like giving out foodie gifts all month. Some things I didn't get done including a lot of cards. My gift cupboard was full though from working all year on making things. This I've loved as I could give lots of presents!
Don't worry about things being perfect. Nothing ever is. Just try and spread all the love, faith and joy that you can. Try and appreciate all the good things and cherish the special moments.
I wish you a very Happy Christmas! xxx

Merry Christmas! Such a productive week in your home. 💕
ReplyDeleteThank you Belinda! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!xxx
DeleteMeryy Christmas, Dear Annabel,
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Dear Bluebirds,
Your week must have been a lot of fun, with kids going to town. I imagine a lot of cheerping in the car. Verry happy for Chloe*s good doctor report, sending her good wishes and prayers from far away. It is so special when a child is coming into a loving family!
With just a few days until Christmas and me being every day at work, feeling the pressure of short light hours and the news around us, some might say I am a bit late with the preparations but I feel such a blessed interior peace, like I don*t need a perfect Christmas when I have the best of it. We are healthy, together, with good food on the table, with a good roof on a little nice house, with running water, with warm rooms, with happy animals around. Presents are already bought and posted, a real natural fir tree waiting to be put up on Christmas Eve (our tradition is like that, then it stays until 6th of January or beyond a bit - it respects both the new Gregorian Calendar and the old Julian Calendar).
Taking in consideration our country*s history, when 36 years ago more then 1100 young people were killed, shot on the streets during the Revolution and today*s peace talks, which are emptied of meaning, when every day!! civilians die near our border, I am very grateful for this year*s Christmas! Today I can go to church when I want or sing carols freely and loudly, and 36 years ago we were not alowed to do that, it was cold and grey, we were whispering carols around a real fir tree, lit by candels in the evening, and we were very happy if in our presents there was a smugled banana or an orange near the knitted scarfs, hats and mittens. And I always got coloured pencils and good books to read. My Mama knew me so well!
Next time I will write about food on our Romanian Christmas table.
Until then, I wish you all CRACIUN FERICIT! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
With love, Laura_s_world from Romania
Many blessings to you and your family Laura. I think of you often. Feliz Navidad!

Felix Navidad! Haven a wonderful Holiday, Patricia.
DeleteDear Laura, thank you for sharing about Christmas in Romania. I also loved the sound of Christmas when you were a kid, your Mum sounds very special. Merry Christmas. Love, Bridget

DeleteHappy Christmas! And I missed Tom this week! He is such a joy to watch grow! 💜
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas! I will make sure Tom and all the kids are in my report next week!xxx
DeleteHello Annabel
ReplyDeleteYour cook ups have yielded so many delicious things, we also love stewed fruit and regularly take some from the freezer to eat with yoghurt or ice cream, lovely vitamin rich fruit to eat during the English winter.
Your table setting looks so festive and pretty too. Good to hear Chloe is keeping well.
We took our granddaughter to the garden centre to see the beautiful festive displays and I stumbled on the bargain of the year! Packs of tulip bulbs marked down to 50 pence a pack, some of the packs have 25 tulips in them. So for £3 I bought lots more tulip bulbs to plant, November is the usual time but December and January are still fine.
I brought my indoor hyacinths out of the airing cupboard ready to flower. They won't flower for Christmas but will brighten January.
I cooked up lots of butternut squash to store in the freezer for quick soups, pasta sauces etc.
I made up all the dry ingredients for the lemon, parsley and thyme stuffing we use for the turkey. It's in the freezer for now.
We have decorated everywhere now, nothing bought new. I did buy ' fill your own' Christmas crackers as we don't like the plastic tat which is in most crackers. I put a packet of flower seeds in each cracker as the present and a little pair of Christmas socks for our granddaughter.
My husband kindly cut lots of evergreen foliage and berries from the woods and I made my Christmas arrangement this morning in church ready for the carol service this weekend. It is traditional in our church to only decorate with greenery until Christmas Day. ( This might apply in other churches I'm not sure).
My husband volunteered to make the Christmas cake if I bought the ingredients and I was thankful not to have that job too.
We are very mindful of the great sadness in Australia amongst the Jewish community and everyone else. What a senseless act of wickedness. People of all faiths and none must hold hands in solidarity. Violence, against anyone, is not the answer.
Sending wishes for peace to all Bluebirds and you and your family Annabel.
Happy Christmas!
Penny in the UK
Dear Penny,
DeleteWhat a treat to get tulip bulbs on such a deal! I know your death for the church will be gorgeous! We have a nativity and Jesus is not added until Christmas Day. Yes Australia has been hit hard. There are groups full of hate... they were let go and repeatedly threatened saying things that were clear threats to the Jewish community (which I wont repeat) and even some of our politicians joined in with them. And then this. Christians are hated as well. I miss the old Australia where our immigrants added wonderful food, goodness and hard work to our country.
Have a beautiful Christmas Penny with your family! With love Annabel.xxx
Thank you for another Friday letter. Sounds like you are given lots of food so that must be so helpful. My biggest baby weighed 10 pounds and 12 oz. Do you know if it is a boy? The flu is going around in my family so hoping to stay well. I wish I could make things but I don't get much done except my exercises I do to keep going. Our tree looks so cheerful and I enjoy reading what all the Bluebirds are doing. Merry Christmas to you and your family!.....Nancy
ReplyDeleteNancy, My first baby was 9 and a half pounds and Im 5 foot 1.. eek! I hope you have stayed well! A Christmas tree adds so much atmosphere! I have mine on with the lights tinkling. Have a beautiful Christmas! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteThe food (and flowers) look amazing, as always!! I think your kitchen smells always good!!
ReplyDeleteSo good that Chloe has received a positive check outcome.
I did a lot small but not easy things this week and need a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow the last things for Christmas…
Someone (anonymously) dropped a nice bouquet at my frontdoor.☺️ And I was offered (by one of my friends) a warm winter jacket and a long sweater (mini dress) - knitted (cotton wool blend). So that’s great. Thus far quite warm winter weather here in NW Europe but w. forecast says freezing temps around Christmas.
I wish you and yours a wonderful Blessed Christmas, Annabel.
Thank you for all the sweet things you have done (incl. prayers) for us Blueb. this year. 💐🌸
Esther 🌷
Also the others Bluebirds a blessed Christmas
Dear Esther, How beautiful to receive flowers! And also a jacket and sweater! That is so nice. I hope you have a beautiful Christmas and not too cold! With much love Annabel.xxx
DeleteHappy Christmas Annabel! 🎄Much love to you and your family ~ Heidi xx
ReplyDeleteDear Heidi, Wishing you a wonderful Christmas to you and your family too! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteHello, Annabel and Bluebirds. Annabel, you are always so inspiring to me, seeing how much you get done in a week. I am so glad Chloe and the baby are doing so well. I did not get a chance tell you how much I love your grey cows. They are hard to find in America, at least where I live. I did some baking this week. I made some sourdough gingerbread muffins and applesauce bread for the freezer. I will pull the muffins out for Christmas morning. I was able to sub one day this week so that adds to our savings "nest." I was able to finish the afghan for my grandson's Christmas gift. We are all ready for the holiday now. Wishing all the bluebirds a blessed holiday week. Marley in the Mountains
ReplyDeleteThank you Marely, re my special cows! Gingerbread muffins and applesauce bread sound beautiful! It is great to add some savings especially this time of year! Well done on completing the afghan! That is a big job! Have a lovely Christmas! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteMerry Christmas Annabel from my family to yours xxx
ReplyDeleteYou achieve so much throughout the year and inspire us all.
Such exciting news about the new baby , many blessings to Chloe.
Enjoy your your Christmas, 🎄 God Bless.
Thank you so much! Many Christmas Blessings to you too! xxx
DeleteWhat a very productive week you had, and look at all the delicious things you made! Soo glad to hear that Chloe and soon-to-arrive baby are well! I haven’t sent out all my Christmas cards this year, and I’m giving myself grace and will likely send a few out per week, with belated Christmas wishes and then new year's wishes too. Double blessings! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas, Annabel, and all Bluebirds too. God bless!
ReplyDeleteDear Teresa, Thank you so much! It is one busy season! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteA busy week as always but your cooking always looks wonderful. I had a bunch of apples that were getting a bit wrinkly so took the time to stew them this week and get a few servings into the freezer - love it on either my yogurt or porridge. I also mad two different types of soup and got more servings into the freezer for the busy time ahead.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you and all your family have a wonderful time together - and having a new baby to look forward to in the New Year is a lovely way to begin the year. Have a very Merry Christmas.
Dear Margie, I love stewed fruit. Also I love apples with pork roast. Soup ready ahead is very handy too.
DeleteThank you so much and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too! With much love Annabel.xxx
Yes, you are always busy as a bee! Love that. A very Merry Christmas to you and your family, and to all the Bluebirds and their families! It's been a blessed season in the Arizona White Mountains. So many here helping others with food, gifts for children and senior citizens, excess ornaments, gift wrap and whatnot, even odd jobs for those trying to earn extra at the holidays. It's a blessing to live in such a place.
ReplyDeletePrayers for Chloe in these last weeks before the baby is born. Prayers for Laura in Romania. Prayers for peace and joy as this year winds down. --Elise
Thank you. Elise. Have a wonderful Christmas!
DeleteAnnabel,
ReplyDeleteYour table is beautiful. I love a pretty table.
Your cooking and jam looks so pretty. I've always thought that canning or food in jars is such a lovely sight. It is amazing work and goodness!
Prayers for Chloe and that this final stretch of pregnancy goes by quickly so that you can all enjoy the new little one. I can only imagine how uncomfortable she is. Your grandbabies are so cute though.
It's cold here so it's the usual winter time activities around here like bringing in wood and loading the wood burner and sweeping up the mess it makes. The wood ash gets dumped in the garden. I'm grateful though for it and the wood that we collect throughout the year.
We were given two nice sized summer sausages and a bag of potatoes.
Oh haha I blame you for my love of cellophane bags! I love putting treats in them and adding a little something pretty on them.
Not much really to report for me. As you know Rick had his surgery so I'm still caregiving.
Merry Christmas Annabel and all the lovely bluebirds who are here each week.
XOXO
Vicky
Thank you Vicky! I have always loved the sight of jars lined up on the shelf! Cellophane bags just make things look professional and crisp! Yep I love them! You have done well with a lot of extra cooking and Christmas things even with looking after Rick! Have a wonderful Christmas! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteSounds like an exciting time, not only Christmas but a new baby! I realize getting it done is out of reach this year...maybe I'll do better next year!
ReplyDeleteDear Vickie, Join us on week one in The Tuesday Afternoon Club and you will be ready by December next year! Have a beautiful Christmas! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteDear Annabel, I am so excited about Chloe's soon to arrive fourth baby!! So is Elizabeth. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhile you have a glut of apricots and tomatoes etc, I am mile high in mangoes. I think if you can imagine a way to preserve them, you know exactly what I am doing right now. But what fun!
God bless all of you in the family...you truly are family to us as well.
Merry and blessed Christ-mas my dear friend,
Jennifer
xxxxxx
Dear Jenny, Its fantastic to have Mangoes. Whatever we have in our hands that is what we are making the most of. Mangoes are quite expensive here.. I am going to check next time I am in store. I hope you all hav a beautiful Christmas! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteMerry Christmas to you and the Bluebirds! What a beautiful table setting and fun things you have planned. A new grandbaby is most exciting! Prayers for your family as you all wait!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to say that most of the Christmas tasks are done and I'm mostly ready! There's a table to set and music to listen to. Your table is good inspiration! I'm looking forward to a New Year with fresh schemes and plans.
Merry Christmas to you!
Stacy in Virginia
Dear Stacy, Well done on being organised! Well... if you like new schemes and plans you are going to like next week! Have a beautiful Christmas! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteMerry Christmas to you all!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the reminder to not try to have a perfect Christmas. 🎄 I've been so weary keeping up with the teen's schedules. Lord bless you all! So good to hear your news, Laura.
Love, Leslie (Ohio)
Dear Leslie, I am weary even thinking about what it was like driving teens everywhere and trying to keep them safe. I am wishing you all a beautiful and happy Christmas! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteMerry Christmas dearest Annabel. How exciting to be so close to meeting a new grandchild.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all you do both for your family and friends, and for showing us what acts of service carried out with love, look like.
I have last week used your fudge recipe to make a batch of gifts for men, and I was delighted with my taste test of a smooth fudge (!) and not the gritty type I recall from my childhood. Also my diy pillow case turned out just great. I am pretty proud to gift it. Hope you get some rest over the festive season. Love Kim x
Dear Kim, Merry Christmas to you! Thank you so much! That easy recipe.... it is nice and smooth... you can add nuts of cherries or whatever into it. Im so glad it turned out well for you. Today I am in collapse as Christmas is like a wedding.. so much prep then it's over quickly! haha! With much love Annabel.xxx
DeleteMerry Christmas, Annabel! Lots of love to you and all your family. From all of us here in our house in Nova Scotia! xx Jen.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Jen! Merry Christmas to your family Jen and I am already on the job with the prayers. With much love Annabel.xxx
