Feather your Nest Friday, 26th of September, 2025.
I am back on my feet and thank you all who wrote to me, encouraged me and I have replied to a lot of comments and mail but I don't think I can reply to all. I said last week my word was sifting. I see that the Gospel is so beloved by some and so hated by others. Something wonderful is that many hundreds of millions of people heard the Gospel this week. We are so encouraged to witness this and listen too.
"The grass withers and the flowers fade but the Word of our God will stand forever." How beautiful is that!
So .... my last couple of weeks were taken up with work on wedding flowers. It all came together and was all worthwhile when the bride came to see them. She sat and held her bouquet and said "I just LOVE it." And I felt relief and joy!
There were four bouquets, the Mothers of the bride and groom, groom, groomsmen, Fathers.... I made corsages on velvet ribbons as my gift to the Grandmas. Oh and reception flowers and church pews. I hope maybe at the wedding I can get more photos.
I think the Nanas deserve the special treatment.
These can be tied around the wrist with a bow, or a purse or strap... whatever each Nana would like.
So now this project is complete, the flowers and gone and I get to attend the wedding! I am so excited!
After the drought my garden was in a state of depression. I wasn't far behind. It was grim. But now... it has come alive! And for this summer I am going to have drippers or soaker hoses.... on ground water, to keep it going. But I actually have flowers!
This is very uplifting! I did lose plenty but also heaps has made a major revival! Every day things are looking better!
On Sunday I have my Grandson Sidney coming to stay. I thought I know! We will plant seedlings together and he will enjoy this and I will get some Spring garden in!
I will be so excited to get the veggie garden going! In another couple of weeks I will plant more but this is a start. I have seeds to start as well.
Also... I will have more big pots! I have compost, manure... and several more really large pots to fill! This will extend the garden even further.
Today in town I took eggs and books and came home with lovely lemons.
My cook up was lots of chicken schnitzels and veggies. My daughter and family went to the city for a baby appointment. I said I will bring dinner over hot when you get home. When I got there at 5 45 the kids were all sitting up at the table ready like I am the farm uber meal service. All waving to me as I pull into the driveway. These kids can really eat and love their veggies. I got two dinners from the cook up too. 😊
Now sewing happened but fabric collecting did!
The sheep yards were finished and the new ramp is beautiful!
I made major inroads to cleaning out my wardrobe and changing over to the new season. I donated today a heap of items that still took up space due to unrealistic expectations lol. I have a couple of other sections to do. But it was pain with gain. I found things I forgot about and made up a heap of Spring outfits for church, town and the wedding. My goal was to have "no brainer" outfits ready that I can just throw on without having to figure them out. I also am getting rid of junk jewellery. I would rather wear a few pieces of the good jewellery I do have and wonder why I don't? I have more work to do there.
My Sparkie photo... She had a bath tonight. She came in covered in who knows what so she went in the bath. She doesn't mind having a bath at all, she just stands there. So I soap her up good and she smells like roses by the time I am done!
So this was my week of goodness, homebuilding and projects. I hope you had many opportunities to build your nest too! We love to hear! Be encouraged! Words can encourage so much! I have many to draw from by Kellie said "Annabel your candle never goes out." I will hold that in my heart forever along with many others that were so beautiful! xxx 💗
Annabel I hope you have a lovely time at the wedding, the bouquets are gorgeous! I love that you’re able to add Uber eats driver to your list of weekly accomplishments lol. The flowers in the garden look great! Are they in the part with all the large rocks?
ReplyDeleteI have ticked off so many little jobs this first week of the holidays. Mainly appointments and similar things that get put off during term time. We had some friends visit for lunch and I made two large pizza breads. Basically
pizza but with a thicker dough. They would be great to have in the freezer ready for school lunches so I’m going to do that next week. I was really pleased with how they turned out and how many mouths they fed!
Today I finished a knitted dishcloth that I love. Took ages to knit but it’s a really nice pattern. I’m going to crochet the ones for Christmas gifts since they are so much quicker. We were able to put together a nice gift of toiletries for my daughter’s friend. I love having gifts on hand!
I’m heading away for a few days so plan to make some granola and baked treats for the people I’m staying with.
Have a lovely time with Sidney!
Jen (NZ)
Dear Jen, Now that things are growint it looks more like plants with rocks than all rocks with a few plants. I really love it!
DeleteI also find the crochet cloths quicker. As baby wash clothes, facial and makeup removing wash cloths or cleaning cloths they are all really nice. Pizza is always a winner. So are focaccia's I feel. I am sure your hosts will love the granola and baked treats! With love Annabel.xxx
Annabel, What a lovely week you have had. So much accomplished. The wedding flowers are gorgeous to say the least and getting the sheep ramp completed was one large item off your list, so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time having Sidney there helping you planting, he will love playing in the dirt.
I have been home this week. My husband replaced the wire shelves in 2 small closets with wood ones he built. Major improvement. Though it meant I needed to empty both and go through everything before placing back nice and organized. It took 2 days, though we feel accomplished and everything looks so much better.
I had 5 granny smith apples siting on the counter for way to long, I finally made an apple crisp out of them. It turned out yummy. We replaced our kitchen frig/freezer, so yesterday I spent time dismantling the inside of old one and washing everything down. My son is taking it to his house as a second frig. It was just to good to toss.
I was able to cut out 2 zippers, a hook and one button from a pair of husband's shorts that were way past repairing, bee there and done that a number of times. A free way to add to my sewing stash.
I am into Fall cleaning here and have more than half the house done, well except for the windows, I need husband's help on those as they are extremely heavy when you flip them to clean. I am feeling good getting ready for our winter.
Prayers for all Bluebirds.
Dear Rosanne, You got a heap done and the new shelves and organisation looks wonderful. A second fridge is an asset for sure.
DeleteWhile you are fall cleaning I am Spring cleaning. It's a big job but makes a big difference! With much love Annabel.xxx
Wow Annabel, your garden is beautiful! Thank you for all the encouragement you give to so many around the world. When I am wondering, how do I do this or that, I remember your beautiful blog and come and find so much inspiration from all your photos and the encouragement that you continually give. Thank you for all you do and sorry for not commenting and letting you know how beautiful you are and how much I enjoy visiting your blog and finding beauty and inspiration. God bless you so much, Jasmine
ReplyDeleteDear Jasmine, Thank you for commenting! It is every encouraging! I hope I can get some more garden photos this week! Today the sun is shining and I am planting Spring veggies. Have a good week! With love Annabel.xxxx
DeleteOh, I love the visual of your grandkids all sitting up at the table waiting for their farm uber to arrive, it made me laugh with joy. How you Bless!! I wish I was closer, I would find something to swap for your junk jewellery. The group I work with have made amazing art pieces with junk jewellery. One was a big canvas of a woman's face and her hair was all junk jewellery, it was very cool. You might be able to scroll back on our Facebook page to see it 'united we made it' is the name of the business, maybe your grand girls would enjoy making something like that. God Bless you always Annabel
ReplyDeleteThank you! What a great artistic use for junk jewellery! I will check out the website! I always need new ideas for the granddaughters as they are getting bigger and we can do more challenging things! Thank you so much! xxxx
DeleteI have seen a truly beautiful framed Christmas tree, made of dozens of pieces of old jewellery, watches and all manner of blingy things stitched or glued to a dark green velvet tree shape that was lightly padded. It was made by an elderly lady and would now be a treasured heirloom. Another idea for you?
DeleteLinda in NZ
Your flowers look gorgeous Annabel, everyone involved with the wedding must have been thrilled with them. What a nice idea to have corsages on ribbons so they can be worn around the wrist or on a lapel or bag. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea that you were an Uber meal service to the farm. Hungry children waiting for the delivery! I hope they gave you a tip for good service!
Your garden flowers are looking pretty too. I also keep outfits together on the hanging rail so I don't have to think about what goes together.
We have had more guests to stay so lots of cooking this week. A big joint of pork gave us plenty of leftovers when the guests had left. I made a big plum and apple crumble with our own fruit.
We are going on holiday ourselves next week so I told my husband we were going to eat all sorts of leftovers from the freezer. This has led to some strange combinations but it's all been tasty and we're clearing the freezer. Our garden continues to provide. I have frozen some bags of tomatoes until I get round to doing something with them.
A new launderette has opened in town and it's been a boon. I wash our big heavy bed coverlet in the bath because it's too big for a domestic machine but it's messy and not entirely successful so the big washer dryers did a great job and it only cost £12 and 45 minutes of my time. Much cheaper than drycleaning or professional laundries and it's another job ticked on my prepping for winter list.
We had all the chimneys swept and I've filled up the log baskets etc too. I am buying some bird food every time I shop so I can keep the feeders full through winter. This spreads the cost for the really cold winter months. My Christmas shopping prep was raisins and cocktail sticks this week.( We had run out of cocktail sticks for pigs in blankets).
Best wishes to Bluebirds and glad life has settled for you Annabel.
Penny in the UK
Dear Penny, Getting the chimney ready and being able to wash something that is too bug for your machine is really handy. Washing is much better than dry cleaning I think too. I am not sure how late it is now produce wise ie if when you get back from this trip there will be more produce to use/harvest. Keeping up with the visitors with home cooking... well done! I hope you are having a great time away! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteThe best we can do is to..be the good! You are the good!
ReplyDeletePaula
Thank you Paula! You are also!xxx
DeleteWhat a cute picture in my mind as I read how your grandkids were sitting waiting for you and their meal! lol You're the best grandma...always cooking and baking and that is the best memories for grandkids! (And I don't think I have any grandkids who like to eat their veggies...so that is admirable.) andrea
ReplyDeleteThank you Andrea! Seeing their little beaming faces... it's all worth it. The excitement over a desert is next level. I have eggs and lemons so I think some lemon curd is maybe on next weeks list. I hope you are having a lovely week! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteThe wedding flowers are gorgeous. You have a really good eye for colour and form. No wonder the bride was thrilled with them.
ReplyDeleteYou are looking forward to planting things in your garden at the same time as I am tidying mine up for the coming winter. I cut the hedge at the bottom of the garden yesterday and my next job is to look for bulbs to plant for spring colour. I like to buy a few new ones each year. Choosing them is such fun.
Dear Tracy, I love bulbs too. They re like a surprise when they come up an are stunning. Thank you re the flowers! The wedding is tomorrow! I got a lot planted and we had rain so that helped the seedlings settle in. With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteYou carry the Lord in what you do, what you write, how you live, and in the choices you make day by day, dear friend...and that is a gift to all of us on this side of your blog, who love you.
ReplyDeleteAnd those flowers...wow!!! xxxx
Dear Jenny, Thank you. That means a great deal to me. The wedding is tomorrow. I hope to get some photos as the flowers hopefully all come together! With much love Annabel.xxx
DeleteI am so thankful that you have had the courage to stand up for your Christian values and against the assassination of Charlie. I will never understand how anyone can support any tragedy like that. I love everything you post about and share and you are the highlight of my Friday online time. Thank you. God Bless.
ReplyDeleteDear Terri, Thank you so much for your kind words. You are very encouraging to me! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteYou are a blessing, my friend, to all who are fortunate enough to know you. The flowers are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Glenda! xxx
DeleteGorgeous bouquets, Annabel!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear about the wedding and Sidney's visit.
I wish you well on your clear out. I am doing the same with my craft and sewing supplies. A big job! My poor husband has had to put up with piles in our bedroom for the last 2 weeks! Life happens.🥴 Mostly lots of canning and processing.
Thank you for sharing about your grandchildren and pets. I miss my kids when they were small. But we are also enjoying a small pet. My daughter received a tiny calico kitten. Her name is Lyla. I have to care for her during the time when my daughter is in school or working. Us mother's have to sacrifice so much! (smile, as Laine would say).
Well, I am off to rake leaves! 🍂 Autumn is my favorite time of year. On a sad note, a well-loved pastor/ teacher passed away. His name was Voddie Bauchum.
He has many messages on YouTube. Please watch and be inspired.
Love to all Bluebirds,
Leslie in Ohio, USA
Dear Leslie, I have heard of Voddie and I will listen to something as I heard he had died. I will take your advice. The wedding is tomorrow I hope to get lots of photos! Sidney was kept busy and have a great time! With much love Annabel.xxx
DeleteLaura from Romania, I hope you and yours are well.
ReplyDeletePatricia
I have been concerned by Laura’s silence too. I hope all is ok.
DeleteShonnie
Patricia and Shonnie, I was worried too. I messaged her... she is ok but there is a lot of tension in Romania... with many drones and missiles going into neighbouring countries such as Moldova, Poland and Estonia... the gov is saying to prepare for power /internet/bank outages...Things in general have escalated. Laura is right on the border of Ukraine. I will update you if I hear anything but pray for her and thank you so much for asking after her.xxx
DeleteThat is why I have been so very concerned about her, as I have seen the news.
DeleteI appreciate you checking on her, and letting us know. Prayers for peace, and kindness every day. Stay safe.
Patricia
Hello Annabel (and everyone),
ReplyDeleteThose wedding flowers are gorgeous, Annabel! I had corsages for the grandmas at mine, too, and they loved them. The wedding is sure to be lovely. Your garden flowers are also beautiful, and I'm excited to see your seedlings go in. The mental picture of the kids waving to you as you deliver their dinner is so precious.
This week I did some cooking, started fall cleanup of my garden (those big sunflower stalks are no joke to break down, haha), harvested some green beans and cherry tomatoes, finished knitting a pair of socks, went to the library book sale & found lots of treasures (many like new!), had my Dad over for dinner, and did a little cooking. Two girlfriends and I splurged and went out to lunch - it was a lovely time with fellowship and filled my cup for sure. A local family-owned jeweler reset my engagement ring into a necklace, and I got to pick it up today. It's beautiful and I love being able to wear it again with joy and not tears (seeing it on my hand was too much).
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
<3
Kathy
Dear Kathy, Thank you! I cant wait to meet the Grandmas and see how they like the corsages! This was one of my favourite things to do. I am glad you went out to a lovely lunch with your friend! A good idea on your ring. Now you can always wear it in a new way. What a very nice week! With love Annabel.xxx
DeleteHaha! I love the thought of your sweet family waiting patiently at the table for a beautiful meal from you. They are so blessed to have you! You accomplished so much this week!
ReplyDeleteI went to a fun quilt show. It was great to see the creativity of other people and shop a little bit. I found Christmas fabric for a new quilt I'm planning! I think I may need to schedule time to sew this fall and winter. It sure is a good way to relax and unwind!
Your gorgeous flower arranging makes me think of the scripture that says "consider the lilies"! Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!
Stacy in Virginia
Thank you Stacy! Yes I do best when I schedule the time even if it's 15 minutes a day. Lately that hasn't happened though. The wedding and school holidays took over. And planting! But I think next week I will be back on track. Lovely to go to a quilt show and soak up some new ideas! With love Annabel.xxx
